Great time in Key West! - April 15, 2012
It's been a wonderful time in Key West this month...great to see my good friends out at the Gardens and Beachside Marriott!
Rich Ciavolino and Marty Stonely joined me at the Gardens and we had a chance to play the new songs from "Symptoms of Love", my latest CD...so great to play the cuts live...and the CD is still going strong on the charts, so I am grateful...also, the following week at the Gardens it was so wonderful to have Pepe Pabone join in on stage...he is doing so well now in his recovery from a stroke last year...He played the drums for Mary Ridamacher (from Grand Rapids, MI), who did a fabulous show case with Larry Smith at the Pier House...it's like Pepe never missed a beat! Patti "La Hat" Crimson added her percussive touch to the jam and loads of fun transpired...Thanks for the pics Bobbie!
My good friends Todd and Chris flew into town in their single engine plane, all the way from Detroit! They stayed over night at the Gardens and headed back to Michigan with Cindy...it was a nail biter on the way back, but glad they made it safely!!!!! I am sticking to my van on US 1 thank you very much!!!!!
Susan Anderson (Happy Birthday today!) and Marilyn from Long Island were in the crowd as well as DaVonna Howell with a friend she knew from the 1st grade! Always love seeing Terry and Erika, two of my favorite Key West transplants...they rolled into town 3 years ago for a short visit and never left!!!
Donna Barnett and Terry White hung out with us two Sundays in a row and we had the pleasure of having Terry sing and jam with us...they are on the road now heading for some great adventures both family and musical...
I also got to see Mary Lou Hoover and Charlie, always doing such a fine job with "Girls Night Out", out at the Gardens and Beach Side Tavern 'N Town which has become such a great locals hang out, and Regina and Charlie who requested lots of my old tunes...and it was especially good to see Ginger King there too! Betty, Donna, June (Wilson) and Sally were also out and about along with Lucy and Leon...great to see Rita from NY out with the gals...Always good to see my Wisconsin fellow Key West Ambassadors and thanks for sending my "Just Like a Millionaire" song to your financial TV guru...Ricardo and his lovely wife did some lovely dancing...Also fun to sit in with Dave Bootle at Virgilios and bump into him with Maria after they rescued two pups from the animal shelter...And there was Roland Rojas and Billy Cartledge at another local food hang out, Kennedy Cafe...
I want to thank Kate and Jim from the Gardens and Rick from the Beachside who have given me the opportunity to come and go when I can and all my musician friends who have supported me through the last several months...thanks everyone!!
Special prayers for Larry Harvey and his partner Allen...two more Key West legends...
I'll be hitting the road again...don't know exactly when I'll be back in Key West, but like the song I wrote many years ago says.."I'll be back just wait and see"...
For all my friends that I've missed this time round, I hope to see you next time I'm in town...
Hugs and love to all of you until next time!

I'll be back for Womenfest! - August 31, 2011
Well folks, it's been a very challenging last several months with an ongoing family illness to tend too...but I will return to Key West just in time for Womenfest 2011...and I look forward to seeing all my friends in town including those visiting once again.
Check out my calendar for the dates I will be playing at the Marriott Beachside Tavern 'N Town...it's a cozy venue a little bit outside the Duval Street zone, but very accessible by car, scooter, trolley, or Marriott shuttle which leaves from points on Duval. The Tavern offers a wonderful dinner menu with a great wine selection and full bar. I get to play on a real piano, so it's lots of fun for me...and I hope to see you there!!
Mellow March in Key West... - March 15, 2011
What a lovely time of year it has been here in Key West...tourists are enjoying the island and locals are enjoying the company! Lots of great happenings abound...
Another trip to Detroit and the Ren Center to play for a wonderful event...added to my fabulous schedule this month...what a great place loaded with love and joy and again...being treated like a rock star by those fab GM folks...
Another lovely evening was celebrated at the Rooftop Cafe. I was so happy to play for the beautiful newlyweds "Bobby and Lynnette" from Baltimore during their wedding reception ...what a wonderful set of family and friends who were on hand for the party...and the illustrious Sir Peter Anderson was on board as their justice of the peace and story teller extraordinare! I learned so many new things about Key West history during the presentation he gave that evening!
The Gardens Hotel Sunday Jazz has been packed with folks from all over, and some specical guests have been sitting in as well. I have been jamming with the fabulous Marty Stonely on sax and flute and Rich Ciavolino on drums...and Eddie Mondello and Alex Ocensic have been stopping by expanding the horn section. Monica Chapman from Toronto sat in with her lovely jazz stylings and great enthusiasm! Mary Rademacher Reed from Michigan shared her wonderful talent singing a couple of songs as well...
This week at the Gardens Ricardo made his debut too with "Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter"!! And Glenn, who also is a great dancer, rocked us with his version of "Under the Boardwalk". Dennis Hyland woed us with his rendition of "Nearness of You"...
The Beachside Tavern 'N Town has also been packed and it has been great to make so many new friends there...I am also looking forward this month to the "Hot Havana Nights" that I will be playing for to benefit the Key West Botanical Gardens on March 26. It will be a fantastic night of latin sounds!
Come and join me on Thursday March 31 inside at the Gardens Hotel at the white baby grand where I will be shooting some video that night...
Spring is right around the corner...tulips and frangipani's are on the way....
See you soon,
Lenore
It's that 'other' time of year.... - February 2, 2011
...When the snow storms are hitting and everyone is trying to get here as fast as they can!!! All I can say is "Come On Down!!"...we are waiting for you!
February is the golden month here in Key West and it's great to see friends returning to the island and meet new friends as well...
I had the opportunity to play at an event in Detroit for General Motors...I stayed at the Ren Cen (Renaissance Center) in a suite overlooking the Detroit River with a view of Canada on the other side of it...Dispite the snow and ice in view, I stayed warm within this world famous complex and had a grand time making new friends and watching how hard these folks work. The international auto show was in full force, and I played for the GM execs and staff in the Atrium of GM World...Thanks to everyone who treated me like a rock star....Cindy...Ann and Millie... Karen...Jody and Mark...Chris and Todd...Arthur, my personal soundman....and great to hang with all the Centre Court gang at the Key West re-union party at Rocky's on Sunday...Shu and Vik and Pam too....great fun...and can't wait to go back!!! Although not right now since the snow has shut down the airport....but you know what I mean....!! And I also learned how to do the Detroit Hussle....who knew?!!

For those of you in the storm belt happening now, I hope you are managing to stay warm...and know that I am thinking of what you are all going through and sending warm wishes to you!!! Stay home and stay safe!!
If you are in Key West now, come on out and join me at the Beachside Marriott, Aqua or the Gardens which is where you will find me this month...also, great events going on around town...and mostly, great weather too!!!!
Stay warm and hope to see you all soon!!!

Fantastic Holidays and Happy New Year Celebrations! - January 8, 2011
2010 went out like a lion filled with fabulous events and high spirits...and now I am certain that 2011 will be even greater!!
Mistletoe Madness 2010 was nuttier than ever with an all star line up mixed with traditional skits and choreography. New songs, new costumes and newcomers to Key West frolicked with holiday halarity...and all for a great cause to bring some much needed funds to the local environmental organization GLEE (Green Living and Energy Education). The "Twelve Days of Christmas Recycling" was a hit and hopefully everyone walked away with a bit more motivation to clean up the planet...
The first Mistletoe Madness Noel Green Prize was awarded to Ana Lise Mannix for her amazing dedication to environmental issues here in the Florida Keys. Presenting that award was Key West City Commissioner Teri Johnston, who also created costumes and portrayed some regular character personalities of her own, i.e. Grandma and Sarah Palin...Mayor of Monroe County and Commissioner Heather Corruthers sang a duet with the fabulous Laurie Breakwell...
Members of the Key West Caberet were on board with their great talent... Michael Thomas, Terri White, Bruce Moore, Bobby Nesbitt, Amy Ray, Traci Reynolds, and Gayla Morgan, who lead the troupe, and also joined me for a violin piano duet that brought the house down...she and I did the same at the annual St. Pauls Christmas concert the following weekend...what a pleasure to perform with Gayla!!! Mark Watson joined all of us in his first performance back in the Crystal Room since his Broadway Three Ways days...And also great to have Tony Knorath back in the show with his tremendously zany wit adding to it all!!
Here are a few photos from the "madness"...(Thanks to Terry Gaberdiel for providing them!)

On to new beginnings and limitless "possibilities" for 2011...
Fantasy or Insanity Fest? - November 2, 2010
Habitat for Insanity, this years theme for Fantasy Fest 2010, spawned many creative ventures during this very amusing week here in Key West. I am usually very busy performing at my musical gigs, but I had just enough time to get into a little extra trouble, and it prooved to be one of the most fun times I've ever had here on the island.
I was asked again this year to open the Headdress Ball which was a fabulous event to be a part of.

Lenore at the Headdress Ball FF 2010.
Since insanity was in the air, and of course what everyone was striving for, a group of my good friends and I got together as "The Anti Depressants". I re-wrote the words to"My Favorite Things" after doing a little pharmaceautical research and then teamed up with Teri Johnston who created the pill bottle outfits. What started out as a silly little venture ended up giving the group a Grand Prize at the world famous Pretenders in Paradise contest held at the Pier House.

Cindy DeRoacher (Elavil), Cindy Lu (Zoloft), Lenore (Lexapro), Evie Valdes (Prozac), Sue Srch (Xanax) and costume creator Teri Johnston (Paxil).
The story even hit the national news and needless to say it was a night to remember. Check out the link that hit the AP and Reuters via CBS News 4.

The weekend parade on Saturday really demonstrated that the door to the asylum was left open... and by Sunday the straight jackets were strewn across Duval Street for the clean up crew to deal with. Well into next week we are still recovering...!
It was a really great Fantasy Fest overall and we are already contemplating next years theme....but for now the town is making way for the Parrotheads and the Trop-Rock musical scene of which I have been nominated "Female Vocalist of the Year". I am thankful for the honor and am looking forward to friends visiting for the MOTM (Meeting of the Minds) 2010.
Keeping up with all the madness!

"Habitat for Insanity" is on it's way!!! - October 14, 2010
And that is the theme of Fantasy Fest this year...and nothing could be more of an accurate description of life in Key West...
This year the 'nudity police' will be out in full force, whatever that means. I really can't wait to see Key Wests' finest chasing a few naked tourists on Duval street...maybe a new kind of streaking. I'm sure there will be plenty of skin flashing across the pavement fascinating some and irritating others, but trying to change the flavor of this adult event remains to be seen, no pun intended...
More to come about the event, but a few photos from the last few weeks. My cousin and her husband from Phoenix visited and got their picture in Conch Color during a benefit I was playing for in town:

Cousins Frank and Mary with Lenore
Also, I was joined by my good friend JC Costello on harp to play for another benefit for Fantasy Fest King Candidate Chris Elwell at a gorgeous home in Marathon. What a fabulous event!

JC Costello, Lenore. Candidate Chris Elwell and Robert Walker, executive director of AIDSHelp.
I am looking forward to the rest of the Fantasy Fest activities...I'll be playing on Duval Street the day of the parade for those of you who will be in town.(Check out my schedule).
Another great surprise this month for me was re-connecting with my room mate from college, Betsy Segura. I attended a Key West Symphony concert and thought the principle French Horn player looked very familiar...and lo and behold it turned out to be Betsy who I haven't seen since we shared an attic room in the Music House of Boston University School for the Arts. She sounded great has been playing in orchestras ever since. It was truly a great moment for me and sent my memory back to an earlier time in my musical journey and education.

Terry, Susan, Joanie, Lenore and Gugi at the Key West Symphony concert.
So far it's been a great month...and I am looking forward to seeing all my friends who will be returning to the island for the rest of it and all the 'Insanity" yet to come!
Getting my head dress ready....!

Wonderful Womenfest 2010! - September 17, 2010
This years Womenfest here in Key West was one of the best! It was great to see so many friends returning to the island. The weather was great and the music, entertainment and venues were all at their best.
I put together an all women band...and what a fabulous bunch of very talented gals they were to work with! We played the opening and closing party and Friday Happy Hour at Aqua. All the shows were just too much fun!
(Photo from left to right) Robin on sax, Karlena on drums, Laura on guitar, and Gayla on fiddle...oh yeah that's me in the middle...!
One of the greatest moments of the week was meeting and listening to Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls. She did a concert at the Studios of Key West, and then was honored at a Business Guild Luncheon. She is truely a blessing to the world not only as a brilliant song writer but a social visionary and very courageous voice in the community.

Lenore with Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls
Other highlights were singer songwriter Julie Clark, one of the best talents I have heard in a long time! She opened for Emily and also did various shows thoughout the week...truely a great songwriter and singer! Jennifer Corday rocked the cocktail party at Pearls and Cowboy Bills, and her new addtion to the band, her lead guitarist is world class! Sister Funk played at Hogsbreath all week, and the sexy and outrageous Lori Michaels and the Girls, who I discovered in Asbury Park when they were just starting out a few years back, have grown into one of the hottest shows in the business! Suzanne Westinhoffer offered up a new bunch of hilarious stories at her show at the San Carlos, and we all got to hang out at Aqua afterwards.Cudos to all the other wonderful musicians visiting the island during this weeklong event.
Rebecca Thomlinson did a stellar job putting the event together along with Steve Smith and Babs, president of the business guild. And a great golf outing put together by Babs as well on Wed with visiting pros was most enjoyable. All proceeds from that event went to Womankind KW.
You can check out the rest of my photos for the week on the photo page. Thanks again to all the women who put together such a great week of fun and all my friends who returned to support the event.
Now whats that noise I hear in the distance...oh yeah, its the Harleys rolling in...on to bike week!!
Hope to see some of you soon...

Oil Spill Update in the Florida Keys... - June 2, 2010
As you can imagine, the concern is overwhelming about the future outcome of this disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The following links will help inform you about what is going on here in the Keys. We here in Key West are still clean and untouched by any kind of oil on our shores as a result of this catastrophe.
Heather Corruthers, one of our county commissioners, wants people to know that we are still open for business. She was a part of a Good Morning America video getting the word out about this so tourists keep their plans to visit us here in the Florida Keys. Check out this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQVeL493xp4
Other links to check out with important information are the following:

Again, our hearts go out to all of those suffering from this tragedy, and we are all praying that some kind of solution can occur before having to wait months before relief wells are implemented.
If anything, come and enjoy the Keys now and all summer long as we really don't know what the future holds...
Hope to see many of you soon!!!

CBS spotlights Key West and other travel news... - June 1, 2010
CBS news was here in Key West...check out the story about this community and our response to the oil spill:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/06/21/assignment_america/main6604513.shtml?tag=mncol;lst;2
Even though we had a pep rally of sorts to get us all in the fighting spirit to ward off any oil coming onto our shores, I feel totally sickened by the news about Pensacola beaches today. I am dreading the possible changes we might see here in Florida in the coming months...
But right now, Key West and the Florida Keys are still absolutely clear of any oil, tar balls or sheen...we are blessed for the moment and there are many hotels and restuarants here that need your business...so take a vacation if you can...it is still a fabulous place to be!!!!
My heart goes out to the rest of the Gulf coast that is being inundated with this terrible tragedy...keep them in your thoughts and prayers and lets hope for a miracle!!!
To all my friends who will be visiting Key West in July...I will be gone from June 30 though July 17...I had a wonderful opportunity to travel to the Middle East and Italy...I leave next Wed and am very excited about this trip...!! But I am sorry that I will miss so many of my good friends who will be here in Key West for the July 4th weekend...celebrate well and enjoy the fireworks!!
I am working hard in the studio on my new songs which will be available soon!!!
I have a new version of a song that I wrote 20 years ago "Save Paradise"...soon to be re-released with my other new songs....
This song will premiere this Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the
"Hands Across the Sand" event which is now in the International spotlight...come and join us for that if you are here in Key West...!!!
So stay tuned and stay cool...
Looking forward to sharing the tales from my journey when I get back....
hugs,
Lenore
